My grandmother’s final gift to me was the microphone that I’m using to record this podcast. Like many grandmothers, Shirley Maher was pretty slick about slipping her favorite grandchild a buck or two to take the edge off of life. The unspoken rules for Grandmom’s gifts were that you would spend them on something that made you happy, something on your wish list, or something a little unexpected that you always wanted to try. I think she’d be tickled to know her last gift lets me do all three.
